Allergy Testing London

Private Allergy Testing in London

Sneezing every spring, itchy after seafood, bloated after bread – or simply not sure what is setting you off? Our allergy service uses laboratory IgE blood testing, which can be appropriate when skin-prick testing is not suitable and is not affected by antihistamines you are already taking. One small blood sample can check anything from a single suspected allergen to more than 300 at once.

Tests are taken by a registered nurse, analysed at a UKAS-accredited laboratory and reported with clear class-graded results. No referral is needed, and the report is designed to be shared with your GP or allergy specialist.

Allergy or Intolerance?

A true allergy involves your immune system producing IgE antibodies to a substance, causing symptoms within minutes to a couple of hours – hives, swelling, wheeze, vomiting or, rarely, anaphylaxis. An intolerance (for example to lactose) is a digestive reaction with slower, less dangerous symptoms and does not show up on IgE testing. If your symptoms sound more like an intolerance, speak to your GP first so you are pointed to the right investigation.

Why Choose Blood Testing?

  • No need to stop antihistamines before the test
  • Often suitable where skin-prick testing is not ideal (for example eczema or higher reaction risk), subject to clinical judgement
  • One sample, hundreds of allergens
  • Molecular component results show cross-reactivity, not just “positive/negative”
  • Objective, laboratory-graded results you can share with any doctor
  • Suitable for children and adults

Frequently Asked Questions

No fasting and no need to stop antihistamines or inhalers. Just turn up.

If you have a clear suspect, an individual allergen test is cheapest. If symptoms are seasonal or respiratory, the Rhinitis/Asthma profile is ideal. If you have no idea, ALEX² covers almost everything in one go.

Yes. Blood testing can be suitable for children because it avoids repeated skin pricks. Suitability depends on age, symptoms and clinical context, and our nurses can advise.

You receive a class-graded report for every allergen tested. Take it to your GP or an allergy specialist to build an avoidance plan and discuss antihistamines or adrenaline auto-injectors where appropriate.
